Growing up in the heart of the Allegheny National Forest in Northwestern
Pennsylvania instilled in me a love for the outdoors and all its splendor.
Life’s journey has taken me to many beautiful places and I find inspiration
in my surroundings—from the prairies and mountains of Wyoming, the
majestic mountains of Alaska and the captivating red rocks of the
Southwest. After 30 years in Alaska, my husband and I now call western
The colors and shapes I admire while hiking in the high desert have a
profound impact on how I approach my work; sitting in the back seat of a
two-seat plane in Alaska also has its advantages. While my husband is
piloting, I take photos of the shapes, colors and textures below. These
photos are the inception for much of my work. I also enjoy seeing what
images come out of my hand-dyed and hand-painted fabric—the varied
results that come from creating my own textiles often times become my
inspiration to create. I invite the viewer to take a closer look at the details
of my work, inspiring them to get outside and revel in the beautiful
landscape around them.
