Free Range Fibers, 2008

The Art Quilt Association Returns to Denver National 2008 with an all new exhibit.  Denver National is held each year on the first weekend of May.  This year the dates are May 1-4.  Go to www.quiltfest.com for all the show details.

Jan Rickman served as juror for this show.  Below are the winners of juror’s mentnion.

“FREE RANGE FIBERS”

WE, as Art Quilters, do not handle being fenced in or force-fed rules. We are seduced by colors that clash, fibers that are not always natural and an art form that doesn’t have to have borders or bindings. As Art Quilters, we often use unconventional materials which might poke our fingers or get our hands dirty.

Free range fibers have seduced us into believing that they are good for our creative souls. They speak to us of vast arrays of texture, color, odd fiber content and deconstructing rules.

We, at the Art Quilt Association, believe that, if our art form is left unfettered and free, our artistic spirits will be sustained and our creativity will grow.

Kari Harvey’s “Fenced In” won both juror mention and member’s favorite.  Congratulations, Kari!
