Wild & Wacky 2024

The theme for the PIQF 2024 show was Wild & Wacky and defined as:

As an antidote to the solemnity of recent years, AQuA members have gone Wild and Wacky. Oh my, colors that clash! Stripes and plaids. Visions of aliens, animals with two heads, and nature gone bonkers. Pink poodles, purple complexions, and clown cars on parade. The carnival is in town, nothing is off limits, and all peculiarities are welcome here.

Our juror, Cindy Seitz-Krug, for “Wild & Wacky” was very thorough and quick!  She recommended that all quilts submitted be included in the special exhibit for PIQF (nothing was juried out).  And she will be teaching at PIQF in 2025.

Her top juror picks are as follows:

#1 “Who’s That?” by Lynda Stahl

#2 “Oia-Santorini, Greece” by Daniela Schupp

#3 “Guggenheim After Dark” by Terry Lee

#4 “Crow Bar” by Sherida Warner

#5 “WW2024” by Jacque Weimer

Juror Statement is below:  “Wild & Wacky” Juror Philosophy – Cindy Seitz-Krug, NACQJ Certified Judge

Thank you for allowing me to juror your “Wild & Wacky” quilts.  They were fun to look at closely and I enjoyed providing helpful feedback to all of the entrants.

As a judge/juror, I always take my job very seriously.  The first thing I look at when evaluating a quilt is the design.  I thoughtfully consider how the elements and principles of design were used by the maker, and if they were used successfully.

Next, I evaluate the workmanship.  Design is extremely important, but it should be backed up by good workmanship in the piecing, applique, quilting, addition of embellishments, finishing, and any other techniques used.

The next thing I look at is the quilting: design and execution.  Quilting should enhance the quilt.

Finally, I evaluate the edge treatment.  A binding, facing, or any other edge on a quilt should successfully finish the composition.
