Farewell Susie Sanmann

Our dear friend and most excellent head steer, “boss” of the sister trio, Susie Sanmann passed away on April 1. Susie started her tenure as head steer during the pandemic, where she proved herself a skillful leader during challenging times. She fought a valiant battle after a fall and multiple bouts with cancer- always with grace, cheerfulness, and ready laughter. She was known for sporting colorful, drapey scarves, giving her presence panache when she could no longer manage her normally perfect coifed appearance. Many thanks to all the AQuA members who took the time and effort to make and send her postcards, gifts that she cherished, and which brightened her days with fiber art memories. WE brought her fabric to pet!
Susie joined AQuA in the mid 20-teens, and her talent was quickly recognized with juror mentions and member choice awards in numerous AQuA challenges. She continued to create during her health challenges, joining forces with her sisters and friends to create floral beauties from hand dyed fabric. Susie could see flowers like nobody else! Her beautiful fabric flower garden was exhibited at the Art Center member show in February. Susie was also a competitive and dogged bidder (even against her sisters!) at AQuA’s white elephant auctions, doing more than her share to keep AQuA’s treasury solvent.
You are gone from our earthly world, dear friend, but never from our hearts or memories. Enjoy this small retrospective of Susie’s work here…
